The tutors were excellent...
“Balancing work and school was a tough challenge, but the online courses allowed me to work towards my degree after work. My instructors provided me with guidance, and I was able to utilize online tutoring and the tutoring center at BSC. The tutors were excellent and helped me out a lot. Balancing Life and School
Returning to school as an adult means you’ll need to balance a different set of responsibilities. You may be working, raising a family or caring for a parent while you pursue your education. Here are some tips and tricks to help you manage your time.
-
First and foremost, you have to take care of yourself. You won’t be able to learn at your best if you aren’t taking care of your physical and mental well-being. Make sure you’re taking time to exercise, getting enough sleep and doing the things you enjoy.
-
Get in the habit of using a planner or calendar to keep track of your classes, deadlines, work hours and other commitments. Set aside specific blocks of time each day for studying, work and family time.
-
At the beginning of each class or semester, break down your goals into smaller, manageable tasks. This can make it easier to focus on what you need to accomplish each day or week.
-
If you're working full- or part-time while attending college, talk with your employer about your schedule. Discuss available flexible options to help you balance work and school.
-
Find or create a study space that is calm and free from distractions like TV, social media, or noisy disruptions. You can also try using focus apps or website blockers to limit online distractions while studying.
-
Experiment with time management techniques to find what works best for you. One idea to start: break your day into small time blocks and assign them to specific tasks. For example, use short breaks between classes to review notes or respond to emails.
-
Things come up. Be prepared to adjust your schedule and communicate early with your professors, employer and study partners.
-
You don’t have to do it alone, and it’s important to have a strong support network. Reach out to your professors, classmates, coworkers and loved ones when you need help. Joining study groups and speaking with your academic advisor can also help keep you on track. Tutoring Support
